Botox is an aesthetic treatment that is mainly used for the face.
Although this treatment has been approved by the FDA, it still generates many doubts in the public, due to the results it has caused on the faces of many VIPs.
Few people, however, know that those almost fake and artificial results are the product of poor botulinum toxin, as well as excessive use.
Botox face, what is it for?
Approved in 2002 by the U.S. Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), botulinum toxin type A can now be used for aesthetic purposes, mainly to smooth out expression lines.
What must be clear, however, is that botox is a substance for medical use only; Only a qualified aesthetic doctor, even better if a surgeon, can cope with this treatment to harmonize the shapes of the face.
So let’s try to better understand what the uses of botulinum toxin are and how it works.
Botox to rejuvenate while maintaining an expressive face
We have seen several times that aesthetic medicine offers different solutions to rejuvenate the face while still maintaining an expressive face.
There are fillers, there are lasers and then there is botox. I would like to emphasize again that if botulinum toxin is used in the correct ways and quantities, the face will not be “frozen” or expressionless in any way.
The goal of botox, in fact, is to minimize the contracture of the facial muscles, to prevent the formation of wrinkles. This, however, does not mean that the muscles no longer do their job, quite the contrary. It simply relaxes the muscles, thus making wrinkles less visible and hidden.
In fact, with targeted Botox infiltrations you can treat forehead wrinkles, glabella wrinkles, i.e. vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows, horizontal wrinkles at the root of the nose and around the eyes but that’s not all. With botulinum it is also possible to redraw the arch of the eyebrows and make the look even more sunny and expressive.
Botox as a solution for facial wrinkles
One of the botox that I tend to use the most is called “Vistabex” and is produced by the Irish pharmaceutical company Allergan.
Like any other type of botox of excellent quality, it acts directly on neurotransmitters (aceltylcholine), which cause muscle contraction and, consequently, the genesis of the characteristic wrinkles.
Therefore, by temporarily attenuating or blocking nerve impulses, a double advantage is obtained:
- Sagging of the face, with consequent disappearance of wrinkles;
- The temporary “paralysis” of the mimic muscles, which prevents the appearance of new wrinkles.
In recent years I have specialized in face-design, to guarantee my patients the safety and effectiveness of the toxin on this type of blemish.
Over the years, thanks to experience, I have in fact been able to see that for a pleasant and natural outcome, dosages and dilution must be calculated, but also the points and depth of administration, In addition, I believe it is essential to monitor the post-treatment, to promptly deal with any rare complications.
How does botox work?
It should be noted that botox does not reduce wrinkles caused by aging and other factors not related to facial muscle contractions.
On the other hand, however, it is possible to combine botulinum toxin with other medical devices such as biorevitalizing fillers and skin-resurfacing laser combined with radiofrequency.
The ranges of action and objectives, in fact, are not the same: biocompatible and absorbable fillers fill wrinkles and furrows by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin.
Modern micro-ablative or non-ablative laser technologies smooth wrinkles, tone the skin and promote tissue regeneration.
How long does the effect of the treatment last?
In any case, the effect of botox lasts from 3 to 5 months and, if performed with competence and sensitivity, the treatment does not generate those fixed and expressionless faces that we see in magazines and, sometimes, in our cities.
Before carrying out the botulinum tom, however, I always suggest booking a consultation visit. In this way I can recommend botox and / or the most suitable treatments to satisfy your desire for authentic beauty, also informing you clearly about the pros and cons of the different therapies.
